JUNE 21, 2017 – EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM     Sign in starts at 1:30pm

Free and open to the public

Morgan Pavol, Community Education Director of the Mid-Ohio Valley Office of the WV Alzheimer’s Association will present this program at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 159 Edgington Lane, Wheeling WV in the classroom.

Communication is more than just talking and listening – it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.  Call us at 304 243-0996 to reserve your space.  Seating is limited.

Family hits the links on The Longest Day to fight Alzheimer’s disease

Today is The Longest Day®, and thousands of participants are doing an activity they love to raise funds and awareness to help end Alzheimer’s disease. In 2013, Mickey Wakely was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s at age 55. His family wanted to find a way to fight back and to include Mickey; a golf tournament in his honor on The Longest Day was a choice that accomplished both.
